My Role: UX Research, Design, Accessibility, and Development
Mobile Cuts and More is a hair and salon business where the hairdresser travels to the client's home or place of work. When the business owner decided to start her own business, I offered to create a website pro bono to help her reach customers.
As the business grew, the hairdresser was spending too much time setting up appointments by text or phone call.
I integrated a free booking app from the credit card company that the hairdresser was already using and added buttons on the site so customers could book an appointment online.

The initial branding for the site was aimed at families, but the hairdresser started to specialize in senior citizens. I created a new persona and updated the hero and other images to feature senior citizens.
Initial persona was a busy mom with a family
Original family main image
New persona is a senior citizen
The updated main section is a diverse group of senior citizens
Images advertising the services offered were updated to show senior citizens
The barber website template chosen for the site was hard to read because some of the text was small and there was not enough contrast between the text color and the background. I made the text larger and changed the text colors to have better contrast with the background. Since the site is especially aimed at senior citizens, I used color contrast ratios that met the highest WCAG AAA standards of accessibility for people with vision disabilities.

The hairdresser has been in business for a few years now, and her business has grown each year. She said that the website was a huge part of helping her to grow her business.
